Windows 10 virtual machines display Black Screen, safe mode step by step (vmware, mac/PC)

I know this one was answered many times, but most of them they lack the exact steps for each process especially for VMWare.

The issue of having your virtual machine (installed in mac or Pc vmware) usually occur when installing the vmware tools and is directly related to an un-supported VGA driver.

Here how you can solve it:

1- Start your windows virtual machine in safe mode by pressing multiple times F4 at the start up, if this does not work then at the startup go quickly to the Virtual Machine menu -> send key -> f8, do this multiple times to make sure the key was sent in the right timing.

2- this would provide a blue recovery mode: Click the option Troubleshoot -> Advanced options -> Start-up Settings -> click Restart.

3- Now you will have list of safe mode start options, for the sake of this issue you may choose number 4 (start in safe mode)

4- once logged on click the settings and search for device manager

5- expand display adapter and select the driver under it -> right click -> properties -> Driver

6 – click at Role Back Driver button to restore the MS default driver

7- Reboot windows

8- Your window will load properly and you would no longer see a black screen. Now you can check if your vmware tools is functioning then no need to do any further actions if not, then you would be better uninstalling the vmware tools and perhaps check for an updated compatible version.

Hope this helps
